SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS

Becoming more sustainable is vital to our mission. We continuously evaluate our environmental impact as a business and seek to improve our existing initiatives. As sustainability is of growing international concern, the United Nations recently released Sustainable Development Goals as benchmarks for countries to strive for and implement. These goals were designed as a universal call to action to end many of our planet’s most pressing issues, including ending poverty, protecting the planet, and ensuring peace and prosperity for all people by 2030. 

Here at KakaoZon, we believe that everyone must do their part to help reach these goals. For that reason, our brand is currently focusing on two of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Decent Work and Economic Growth:

KakaoZon is directly involved with ensuring fair working conditions and wages for our cacao farmers. We believe in sustainable investing. By manufacturing our chocolate directly in Ecuador, we help keep wealth in the country. Instead of bringing chocolate profits back to the United States — as many major chocolate companies do — we ensure that our Ecuadorian farmers and workers are paid fair and livable wages. We respect the rights of all our farmers and workers, and we believe in employee choice and transparency.

Responsible Consumption and Production:

 We are focused on reductions in total waste and packaging waste, and we understand the lengths our brand must take to minimize our impact on the environment. We are currently analyzing our packaging and product materials, as well as our ability to choose companies who responsibly ship items.

We are still researching options to reduce the impact of our packaging and below is the projected impact of one of the sustainable solutions we are considering. As we work towards this goal we will continue to share our progress in creating more sustainable packaging
